Philty McNasty's Sports Pub

The fun lively spot where people like to go to have a good time and some great food. Among their best is the Voodoo Chicken, Guinness stew with mushrooms and their world famous nachos. Started our meal with a Bloody Caesar with enough vegetables to be considered an appetizer. Service is prompt, prices are reasonable and portions are generous. Great place to catch a sports event, hangout with your buddies or listen to live entertainment on weekends. My companion had the voodoo chicken for dinner. It was lightly breaded served with a sweet and spicy sauce, served with fresh sautéed vegetables and perfectly cooked rice. I had nachos that were piled high with chicken, jalapenos, cheese, lettuce and tomato. Both meals were filling and fresh. We left feeling satisfied an a little change in our pockets.

Salvatore's of Oakville

Salvatore's is one of Oakville's newest Italian restaurant. It is a family owned business that has excellent service. It has an upscale feel with white table clothes and formal place settings. However, it doesn't have the high price tag with it. The service was extended by being greeted by the host at the front door and wonderful waitress. Throughout our meal we were also welcomed by both the owners who stopped by to check everything was ok. They took the time to decant the red wine they serve. We started our meal with the brochette which was almost the same taste as we had in Italy. For dinner my companion and I had a pasta dish. I had a dish with tomato sauce, ravioli and grounded veal. My companion had a wild mushroom, truffle oil and cheese ravioli. Both dishes were fresh and wonderful tasting. All of this is under $50 excluding your wine selection. My new favourite restaurant
Brochette at Salvatore's

The Gingerman

The Gingerman is a mix between a sports bar and trendy bistro. Although it can be very busy at dinner time on weekend night the crowd drops off fairly quickly and the restaurant quite atmosphere. The establishment is well known for serving Granville Island Pale Ale which the owners brought from the west coast. My companion order the Mahi Mahi and I order the house burger. The Mahi Mahi was disappointed. It was dry and over cooked. In comparison my burger was juicy and delicious. So for drink we had a bottle of Cono Sur Pinot Noir which went well with both our meals. It is a little pricey considering the hit and miss quality of your food. Try to go during the non peak times and order what appears to be the freshest ingredients on the menu.

Il Fornello

Looking for a some authentic Italian in the town? Look no further than Il Fornello. Il Fornello has it all, open kitchen to watch the chefs at work, fresh clean Italian atmosphere, sunny patio overlooking the creek and amazing homemade food. I was lucky enough to have selected the mussels for my meal and my companion order the Penne Capri. We asked for a wine selection from the bartender. Who provided us with a tasty and reasonably priced Chianti which complimented our meal perfectly. Both dishes were fresh and flavourful and service was outstanding. We round out our a meal with a Raspberry Tarutfo that was the best I've ever tasted. Although it can get a little busy at peak dinner time Il Fornello is a wonderful place to celebrate an occasion, romantic dinner or just a casual evening out with some friends that won't break the bank.

Fire Hall

My visit to this lively neighbourhood restaurant I was lucky enough to be there on a Tuesday when their famous wings are on two for one special. After a bit of a wait to get a table we were greeted with a friendly smile a and promote service. Young and old alike can enjoy the busy casual and friendly atmosphere and everyone loves the wings. My table companions and I enjoyed a pitched of beer and the best sauciest wings for miles around. There are lots of flavours to choose from but sometimes a good old barbecue is just the way to go. This great deal allows lots of friends to get together for a hell of a good night and a hell of a good price.

Pic A Deli

Pic A Deli isn't what it used to be. It is the type of place where people can go play pool and have a beer while eating a corn beef sandwich. Although the place has been redecorated it is cheap looking. It has been taken over by new management and that is not a good thing. The previous chefs with their beer bellies cooked up with greasy goodness and tasty treats. Now the new owners have cut costs using cheaper products and this shows in the taste and quality of the food. My companion and I were at the Pic a Deli for breakfast recently and found the bacon fatty and tasteless. The home fries were under cooked and gritty. To give the new management a fair trial my companion and I went back another day for lunch and were disappointed with the sandwiches. Bottom line this use to be an Oakville landmark but under the new management it has become a restaurant the soon will be forgotten.

Adonis

Welcome to the Mediterranean! This family run family owned business is a treat to have in the neighbourhood. Mom and daughter team are always behind the counter creating delicious food. When you step into the restaurant the warmth atmosphere welcomes you and makes you feel at home. It is noisy but in a festive family sort of way. The Adonis Shwarma is their specialty. It is a bacon, pineapple, chicken filled with creamy garlic sauce. If you prefer a tamour version order the Chicken Shwarma. It is just as tasty with a side order of their Greek salad. It has olives, feta cheese, tomato and cucumber. If you are in the mood for dessert you can have Baklavia for dessert! It is very reasonable price for such good homemade food.

El Spero

El Spero is a local hangout at the nearby mall populated by elderly and business people mostly. It is a clean basic mall restaurant with pleasant service. Menu items are ordinary basic items with nothing special on the list. The portions are a fair size but the prices are too high for what you get. My chicken was made with fresh roasted chicken and the French fries were made perfectly. It is licensed by the LLBO but I stuck with my traditional chocolate milk. All in all this restaurant is decent but not outstanding. If you are looking for a typical mall restaurant food down to the rice pudding this one is for you.

Wasabi Teriyaki

Wasabi Teriyaki is family owned gem tucked in the parking lot beside the Oakville Go. It's a little taste of Japan in the middle of Oakville. With the best sushi you will find in Oakville and surrounding area. The atmosphere is warm and cozy while you drink your complimentary green tea. I order the mountain roll and the green dragon roll both were prepared freshly right before your eyes. As you are enjoying your complimentary green tea ask the chef to show you his knife skills. You will be amazed! The rolls were large, tasty and artfully presented. Most rolls are under $10.00 each. Which makes for an inexpensive quick and yummy meal. When you look around the room you will appreciate the Asian atmosphere from the small figurines to oriental dividers between each table. Before you leave don't forget to ring the lucky bell on the front counter!

Stoney's Bread Company

Stoney's Bread Company

My journey began with a stop at Stoney's. It's a small neighbourhood restaurant at the corner of Florence and Kerr St. Don't let its size fool you. One trip to Stoney's and you will see why it has such loyal cliental coming back again and again. When I arrived at the restaurant the line up was out the door and while waiting to place my order it gave me time to take in my surroundings. The  restaurant is fast paced, noisy and crammed with as many butcher block tables as they can. The specials change from day to day, including a daily pasta, pizza,  sandwich and burger. My guest chose the seafood pot and I chose the lamb sandwich. My guest described the pot as rich and flavourful. It was chalked full of seafood including mussels, shrimp, scallops and salmon, in a tomato and clam chowder base. Served with Stoney's signature grilled focaccia bread for dipping, the fisherman's pot was almost too big to finish. The lamb sandwich was juicy, flavourful and tender. All sandwiches are served with a mixed green salad and Stoney's in-house prepared balsamic vinaigrette. It's LLBO licensed so we were able to enjoy a nice bottle of wine, with our dinner. We spent under $60 for our meal including a bottle of wine so, if you want a good meal for a good price head down to Stoney's for a delicious fulfilling treat.
